Solenopsis fugax Queen with eggs (starter kit)
Solenopsis fugax are also known by the name "thief ant" and one of the smallest ants in Europe.
In the wild they parasitic and collect brood from other ants to feed their colonies. They are often associated with their host species such as Lasius species and other like Formica species.
A very exciting species to watch and you can even experiment with their parasitic behaviour once the colony is up and running.
Queen size: 6-6.5mm Black/brown
Workers size: 1-3mm yellow/brownish yellow
Food: honey water and insects
Founding: claustral without feeding
Colonysize: 1-100,000 workers
Hibernation: November until end of February at 15°C
