Proformica splendida (Antsrus exclusive) are a form of honey pot ants in which some workers are dedicated repletes. This means workers become storage facilities for liquids and look like as shown in the images.
 
The Repletes are no where near as agile as the day-to-day workers and likely remain in the nest in the wild.

Workers are of a shiny black/brown appearance as well as the queen and are certainly an interesting species to keep!
 
This species is easier to care for then myrmecocystus aka the American honey pot ant species.
